Our History
Ararat district undertakers was originally founded by Thomas Lymer in 1857. John Dunn senior took over the business in July, 1900 establishing John Dunn Funerals in Barkly Street. Upon leaving school John’s children Jack, Keith and Doris began work in the funeral home. 1924 saw the purchase of the first motor hearse in Western Victoria, a T Model Ford. John Dunn died in 1934 leaving Jack and Keith to continue the business. After Jack died in a motor accident in 1962 his son John Dunn joined the business with Keith. In 1970 Keith retired and Laurie Dunn joined the company alongside his father John. In 1994 the business moved from Barkley St to the newly built premises at Campbell St.
After 120 years in Ararat we aim to provide high quality, personalised funeral services
